Submission guidelines

  • Essays should be submitted as Microsoft Word documents, in a standard font (Times New Roman, Arial, Garamond etc.) and should be no more than 1000 words. Words that will be italicised in the printed version should be italicised in the submitted version, not underlined. Please do not use double line spacing. Please avoid unnecessary formatting.
  • Writers should include their university and year and subject of study in their submissions e-mail.
  • Referencing can be by footnotes or embedded, but please ensure that references conform to the style of the following examples:
    • Badiou, A., Metapolitics, tr. J. Barker, London: Verso, 2006.

    • Buchanan, I., ‘Power, Theory and Praxis’, in I. Buchanan and N. Thoburn (eds.), Deleuze and Politics, Edinburgh: Edinburgh University Press, 2008, pp. 13-34.

    • Critchley, S., Infinitely Demanding: Ethics of Commitment, Politics of Resistance, London: Verso, 2008.

NB: In the case of embedded references, the date of publication should follow the author’s name rather than the publisher.

  • Dialectic is aimed at an undergraduate audience. As such, please avoid as far as possible the use of unexplained specialised jargon that might not be known to undergraduate philosophy students.
